A "Batty" Birthday!

Hi Friends!
We have a Birthday coming up this week! And it's for our son who LOOOOOOOVES Batman! You know the drill when trying to come up with a card for someone SPECIAL! Our guy likes interactive type of cards or different folds! (Me too!)  So, I was on the hunt to find the right card base! AND find something that I could use my Batman Stickers on, since there aren't any Batman Rubber Stamps! (Boo-hoo!)  I checked around & I came up with this Multi-Panel Center Step Card over at Dawn's! Here: http://dawnsstampingthoughts.typepad.com/dawns_stampin_studio/2011/07/multi-panel-card-video-.html    I changed the dimensions just a little to accomodate my large Batman Sticker! Here's the card:
Yep, I DID use "designer paper" & the stickers both, are by SandyLion, the "Happy Birthday" sentiment is by CHF, the 21 by AB Seas Alphabet Stamps, &  SU Circle punches, popped up on a dimensional.
The measurements & instructions for my card are:
Base Card- 7 1/2" x 11"
Using a Fiskars Cutter: line your paper up on the 2" line & cut from 1" to 6 1/2".
Do the other side the same, leaving a 3 1/2" piece in the middle.
Score at 1" & 2" on the end closer to your cuts. Scoring only on the outside edges---NOT on the inner 3 1/2" piece!
Next score on the inner piece only at 5 1/2".
Your last score will be at 6 1/2" on the outer edges.
(If you have trouble with this see Dawns' video! Everything is the same except for the measurements of the base of the card & the Designer piece measurements! )
Fold your card on the 5 1/2" score & it pops up automatically!
Continue folding the rest of the card.
For the Designer pieces:
Center area- Image- 3 1/8" x 4 1/4"
Mat for Center area- 3 1/4" x 4 3/8"
Side Pieces- 1 1/2" x 3 1/4"
Mat for side pieces- 1 3/4" 3 3/8"
Piece across the bottom- 6/8" x 7 1/8"
Mat for piece across the bottom- 3/4" x 7 1/4"

I didn't have any catchy Batman sentiments for the inside either so, I created my own using a Zig Calligraphy pen.
With plenty of room for everyone to write a little something!

Here is a look at the SIDE so you can see the way the folds, fold!

I don't have a cake DONE at this point BUT, I thought I'd show you the cake I made for our son last year! He was SO PLEASED with it, he made it his Desk Top Background on his computer!

It was YUMMY!

Don't forget to let me know what you think! I LOVE hearing from you & I HOPE you have a "BATTY DAY!"

"A Spot of Tea?"

Hi Friends!
Thank you to all of you who joined us for the Virtual Tea Party! What FUN! Did you enjoy yourselves? I SURE HOPE SO! ALTHOUGH, none of you identified yourselves, so MAYBE you were just peeking in??? A little shy? MAYBE, you won't be so shy next time, now that you know what goes on! Christmas time is when we plan on doing another! I'll let you know the date!

I thought today, I would give you the recipe I made to have for our Virtual Tea Party! Here's what my Lemon & Poppy Seed Bread looked like!
WOW! Was it GOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!
Here's a look at it sliced!
And here's the recipe:

LEMON & POPPY SEED BREAD

Pastry flour makes a more tender crumb. It is available in most natural food stores. If you can't find it, substitute all-purpose flour. (You can also find how to make your own Pastry flour on the web here:

3/4 c. (6 oz./185 g) plus 2 T. butter at room temperature.
1 1/2 c. (12 oz./375 g) Sugar
4 Eggs
Pinch of Salt
1 1/2 t.. Baking Powder
2 c.(8 oz./250 g) Pastry Flour
3/4 c. (6 fl. oz./ 180 ml) Milk
Grated Zest of 1/2 Lemon
1 T. Fresh Lemon Juice
2 T. Poppy Seeds

Preheat over to 375 degrees ( 190 degrees C.) Butter a 9 x 5 Loaf pan.
Cream Butter & Sugar together till fluffy, beating in eggs one at a time.

In a separate bowl, mix Salt, Baking Powder, & Flour till well blended. Alternately stir the flour mix & milk by thirds into the butter mix until well blended. Stir in Lemon Zest & the Poppy seeds.

Pour into a greased pan & bake for 45 min's. OR until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. ( I had to bake my bread quite a bit longer than 45 min's.) If the bread browns before the center is done, cover with aluminum foil & continue baking until done.

Makes 1- 9" x5" Loaf.

This recipe is from: Sharon O'Connor's Menus & Music AFTERNOON TEA SERENADE Recipes from Famous Tea Rooms Classical Chamber Music.

The Recipe it's self is from:
The Four Seasons Olympic in Seattle, Washington. Considered one of the top hotels in the world.

We found this recipe to be VERY GOOD! It reminded me of a Lemon Pound Cake. I used Whole Wheat Pastry Flour but, I'm sure it would come out looking more like a typical lemon & poppy seed bread if I had just used a regular Pastry Flour.
Hope you like as much as we did!

In keeping with the Tea Theme I chose for today, I made another card to enter into one of the Moxie Fab Challenges on Design! This one is on REPETITION!

Here is my card, "A SPOT OF TEA?"

I just LOOOVE this stamp! It's from Ecstasy Crafts- Eline's Huis Winter set. I colored the image with Dick Blick Colored Pencils & used Gamasol. I also added glitter pen details, Just Rite Stamps to create my own sentiment, My Mind's Eye Printed paper, & a Krylon Silver Pen & Walmart Ribbon! I also popped those little tea pots up on Dimensionals, the center one just a little higher!

Here I am trying to create  rhythm or unity to the whole card when I repeat the image of the tea pot. You can repeat other things when doing a card like this such as, value, texture, color or shape.
Have you gotten your issue of Paper Crafts Card Design????
NOPE, I don't work for Paper Crafts! I just LOOOOVE this issue! I've been waiting for it for FOREVER!!!!!!!
Check here for the Magazine with ALL THE ANSWERS:

Just a little tid-bit of MONEY SAVING  information: Since prices are going up, I have been looking at ways of saving money! How about YOU? I found this recipe that I thought you might like! I've tried it out too! Home Made DEODORANT! My husband picked up two Dove Deodorant from Walmart recently; it was $8.00!!!!!!! A "Value Pack!" OUCH! So, here's a recipe that is MUCH CHEAPER & WORKS!
Here's what it looks like:

You can apply this with your finger-tips. ( There are OTHER RECIPES on TipNut.com.) See which recipe you like better!

1/3 c. Baking Soda
1/3 c. Corn Starch
4 T. Coconut Oil (found in the grocery-cooking oil section)
1-2 drops Lavender or Tree Oil (or without leaving a light coconut smell)
Microwaving the oil helps with the mixing.
(Be careful not to add to much essential oil if you have sensitive skin!)
Here I used a Half  Pint Ball Jar.
Check it out here: http://sugarbananas.blogspot.com/2010/03/highly-effective-natural-deodorant.html  She has other things you might like too, Chocolate Chip Lip Balm!
HOPE it helps  your pocket-book!

Here are the words of a little chorus we used to sing when I was a little girl in church. I find myself singing it when I'm relaxing... Or wanting to relax! I don't remember the name of it, maybe one of you will know?

Peace, Peace, wonderful peace,  coming down from the Father above.
Sweep over my spirit, forever I pray, in fathomless billows of Love.

"You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you."
Isaiah 26:3

Hope this touches someone this week who needs our Saviors' peace!

It's ALMOST "TEA TIME!"

Hi Friends!
Well, were you one of the ones that got a SNEAK PEEK  this week of my post???? LOL I hit the WRONG BUTTON & had to delete THE WHOLE THING!!!!!!!!!!!! It of course, WASN'T TIME to publish  it AND IT WASN'T DONE!  Aaaaarrrgh!!!!!!!! So, here I am AGAIN, writing this AGAIN! For you bloggers', have you EVER DONE THAT????

Well, it's ALMOST TIME for our "Virtual Tea Party" on Saturday, 11:00 a.m.! Here: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/get-together-f67/done-virtual-tea-party-sat-5-19-10am-est-t551930-9.html#post19662522
Don't forget to get your Tea Time goodies up for all to see! AND make sure you let me know & I'll come on over & take a look too!!!!!!!!! I will tell you, the Virtual Tea Party  MOVES FAST!!!! I had a hard time keeping up last time! But, I GUARANTEE you'll have a FUN TIME! I just set myself up in the dinning room with my computer, a pot of Tea, & a Tea Time Treat to munch on. My husband & the kids knew it was time JUST FOR MOM! If it's anything like last time, bring your Tea Time Knowledge too! AND you can even post a recipe if you like; I'd save that till last or you will miss something ! Don't forget to identify yourself to me too! I won't know who you are! :( I look forward to chatting with you!

For my first Tea Time creation, I made a Vintage Tea Cosy from 1915! I can't give you the pattern as they prefer you come to their site. So, here's where I found it: http://www.allfreecrafts.com/knitting/vintage/teacosy.shtml   Here's a picture of what you end up with before the pattern is all put together.
And here's a picture of the BEAUTIFUL RIBBING pattern!
Now, can you believe this is what you end up with?
NOTICE: The little "Tea Pot Charm?" I made this to make the Tea Cosy even more special if that's possible! Here's a closer look:
I stamped the image on Shrink Plastic & colored it with a Silver Dick Blick Colored Pencil, attaching it to the Tea Cosy with matching Crochet Thread. The stamp is from: www.De-Stempelwinkel.nl Plate #66.
Here's a picture of the Tea Cosy with the Tea Set  I made it to go with:
Now, if you don't have one of those new ribbon cutting things like me, just use a little Fray Check on the edges of your ribbon! AND I MUST SAY, This Tea Cosy keeps your Tea COSY!!!!!!!!!!

I also HAD TO make you one of my Paper Tea Cups! Take a look:
I did some DIFFERENT THINGS with this cup! First of all, I used SU- Harvest Home (retired) stamp set (Ivy), & Papaya Collage (Rose). I used a lot of Masking & I colored in the images with Dick Blick Colored Pencils. Another thing different I did---I made my own embossed pattern for the cup. Take a close up look:
Do you see the swirl pattern? Here's what I did, I got a block of wood & drew that swirl design. Then I  had my husband use his wood burner on it, keeping the edges smooth.  I only needed one swirl & I "eye-balled" it using a Stylus to do the embossing! I did this to the Saucer too. Then I used Versa Mark on the Tea Cup & Saucer & covered it with Clear Embossing Powder. The Embossing Powder gives the cup a little more sturdiness AND that China SHINE! And I didn't forget, my Gold Krylon Pen!
Here is my inspiration for this cup:

Do you remember a few weeks back, when I said I had come up with ANOTHER IDEA for my Stand-Up Card? My idea? Let me SHOW YOU FIRST what I made!
This one was made with Oxford Impressions- Tea Pot, De-Stempelwinkel Plate # 66-silverware stamps. I used a brayer on the background & then stamped the silverware stamps.
De-Stempelwinkel- Tea Pot, Plate #66. This one I decided to go CAS!
And lastly,
This is my own image! I drew the image of a Tea Cup & Saucer & I paper pieced it!
Now, MY IDEA:
Make these Stand-Up cards with Tea Time Images & use them for Place Markers on your Tea Table! Write the guests name on the front panel & add a  little personal note on the inside for each of your guests & it will be a little reminder of your special time together!
ANOTHER IDEA:
Make these Stand-Up Cards with Tea Time Images & instead of writing your guests names on the panel, write the name of each of the  Tasty Tea Time Treats you serve, to label your treats! That way everyone will know what you're serving! AND you may even get a request for your recipe!
See here for Instructions:

I have ANOTHER goody for you today too! IF you like my Tea Cup Stand-Up card, I have the image below for you to copy & use to make your own Stand-Up card or use however you like!

PLEASE LET ME KNOW what you think? I'd LOVE to hear!

"GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS"

Hi Friends!
I have a "SURPRISE" post today!!!!!!! I'm even posting MUCH LATER in the day than usual! I've been working away on  this card today!

Did you know that FLOURISHES is having their September Release "Party?" There's LOADS of activity! Blog hops, giveaways & a challenge! For all the information on it, check here: http://flourishes.org/blog/  You can use your Flourishes Stamps which will be counted twice BUT, I don't have any Flourishes stamps, YET!!!!! (I've admired Flourishes stamps for FOREVER! Just hadn't gotten any!)  But, you don't HAVE TO use Flourishes Stamps! How FUN IS THAT???? Then ANYONE can play! I'm using their "Any Which Way Sketch Challenge."
AND I've combined this  Challenge with Patter's challenge  over at: http://triplethescraps.blogspot.com/  Hymn #11- Great Is Thy Faithfulness Challenge.

Here is my card for BOTH  THREE challenges! (Moxie Fab Challenge too! See below!)

When I think of this song I automatically picture myself in church, with everyone singing beautifully! What can be more beautiful than the stained glass windows in a church? I dug this stamp out of my stash. I bought it AGES ago & haven't used it, till now! AND for the colors, I thought since the song is about our LOVING SAVIOR, He deserves ROYAL COLORS! RICH JEWEL TONES! So, I went with Purples, Red, & Gold!

Here's what I used:
Sparkling H2O's-used on the window, on Water Color Paper.
Cuttle bug folders- Victoria & Grace's Frame.
Hymn- copied from my hymnal.
Gold Krylon Pen.
Walmart ribbon- Purple & Metallic Web
(The Metallic Web made me think of the Crown of Thorns.)
Dimensionals
Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Ink.
Window Stamp- Stampington, Arched Glass M4742

This card came out MUCH LARGER than I usually make because the Window Stamp was much larger than usual. My card came out to be: 5 1/2 x 8 1/2.

What do you think? Let me know???? Would LOOOOOVE to hear from you!

I'll be posting again SOON!
TLady

P.S. ANOTHER CHALLENGE: Moxie Fab Focal Point Challenge! Here:

http://www.moxiefabworld.com/2012/08/card-design-handbook-week-focal-point.html   WHY didn't I think of this EARLIER???? Remember, the Card Design HandBook?

A VIRTUAL TEA PARTY INVITE!

Hi Friends!
I HAVE TO say, NO WONDER Crafters have messy houses! When you do all that cleaning, your crafty mojo just disappears! LOL!  I have been putting off & struggling with this post/card ever since I did my cleaning! BUT, it DID come back with the help of a WONDERFUL magazine I ordered! If you've EVER wondered about "The Theory of Card Making," then THIS is the magazine for you! I've gone to SU card making sessions, looked on the Internet, had it explained on SCS & THIS magazine is the ONLY thing that has EXPLAINED it CLEARLY! There is SOOO MUCH in this magazine! I will be keeping it on my desk for quick reference!

You can find it here:
http://www.scrapandpapershop.com/product/paper-crafts-card-design-handbook/new-arrivals
I KNOW you will LOVE IT!!!!!!

So, I figured it was time to try out one of the "Theories!" One that seemed to ALWAYS throw me was the "Rule of Thirds," even with people explaining it! With this  magazine however, it  REALLY giving all the In's & outs....I'm getting it now! Following the Rule of Thirds, this is the card I came up with!

Can you see where the card was "cut" into thirds? Both horizontally & vertically? I am entering this card in the challenge on The Rule of Thirds over at Moxie Fab! Oops! No challenge for that BUT, there is one for Movement! I think this qualifies! (Let me know what you think?)

Here are the goodies I used to make this card:
Tea Pot Stamp- Ecstasy Crafts-Eline's Huis-Winter; popped up on dimensionals
Doily Stamp- SU-Delicate Doilies- White Embossing Powder
Tag Boarder- SU- Tea Shoppe
Tag Sentiment- Ecstasy Crafts-Eline's Huis-Winter
Embossing Folder- Cuttle bug- Grace's Frame
Floral Paper- Colorbok- (WALMART!)
Ribbon- Walmart light pink dyed- SU- Rose Red.
Krylon Gold Pen
Inside Verse- Inky Antics
(I cut away the inside of the embossing folder to get a frame with an X-Acto knife.)

Not only am I showing you this card to show you what I'm trying to learn but, it is ALSO An INVITATION to "A Virtual Tea Party!"
