RED, WHITE, & BLUE!!!!!!!

Hi Friends!!!!!!!
Did this week FLY BY for you, like it did for me? I guess busy fingers make the time fly! This week, I have a Tri-Shutter Card for you! When I came up with this card, I thought THIS is the PERFECT type of card for a FLAG CARD! It just flows like a flag in the wind! I got my instructions for a Tri-Shutter Card from SCS, so you can check their Resources page for the instructions!
Here's how I made this card: First of all, I made a cardboard template of a wavy stripe. Using that I made a "Master Board" by tracing that piece onto Red & White card stock. I cut out each stripe & pieced them together, as a puzzle, onto another solid piece of card stock. Before gluing them down I used Tim Holtz Vintage Photo ink to antique the pieces. Keeping in mind the fold areas should be darker. Once the pieces were glued down, the master board was done.
Then for the blue area I used the star image from SU, The Free & The Brave set (retired); you can use any star image you choose. I heat embossed the stars using white embossing powder. Then using an extra piece of card stock cut with the wave template I  applied the Vintage Photo ink to the blue. I then copied everything as cutting your master board & applying it  to this card WILL be disastrous! ( I discovered!) Cut the pieces to fit your shutter card carefully so the stripes line up & stars have a little overlap to the next piece. On the Tri-Shutter base card, I added a creamy piece to the left side of the card, that I applied Vintage Photo ink too. I added 2 grommets & gold cording.
For this inside, I used the sentiment stamp from the SU set The Free & The Brave. ( I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this sentiment! It is TRUE spiritually too!)  The 1776 was stamped with Stampingtons, AB Seas Alphabet Stamps. The image of Betsy Ross & the little image of the Constitution are images I found on the web. I DID color in Betsy Ross with colored pencils.
Here is a closed image:
Let me know if you'd like for me to post images of my Master Board or any other parts of this card & I'll do my best to get them up for you! (Lately, there are computer to copy machine issues!)

Here's a question for YOU! WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR THE 4TH OF JULY????

I have MORE 4th of July goodies coming, so be sure to come back!

PLEASE leave me comments &/OR suggestions!!!!!!!! I'd LOVE to hear from you!!!!

I HOPE all Father's out there have had a WONDERFUL Father's Day filled with love! And hope Moms' are NOW resting after such a BIG DAY!

I thought I'd share with you a little of our Father's Day Celebration! YUM!!!!!! I found the recipes in TEA TIME MAGAZINE, May/June 2012 . Ladies, if you don't have this magazine, RUN out & BUY it! AND SUBSCRIBE!!!!!!!! (Especially, if you like to have tea!) This is THE ONE magazine, I WON'T let run out! I've tried recipes from this magazine before & I've NEVER been disappointed!

First here is our Iced Tea with Lemonade Ice Cubes!
Next, we had Green Chile Muffins with Chipotle Butter!
OH MY GOODNESS, were these GOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!! Then we had Sausage Pinwheels! Now, I HAVE TO say, SOMETIMES we make mistakes & have to make adjustments! I didn't have the Puff Pastry I THOUGHT I had! So, I used Cresant Rolls! They came out good! Oh, & the Chipotle Butter, well, the chipotle pepper & special sauce were not to be found in my area, but I used chipotle salsa! (Nothing wrong with making adjustments!) Next, we had Garlicky Beef Sliders! Oh my goodness, they were SOOOOO GOOOOD! Take a look!
Here I made adjustments as well! I used Ground Turkey & Turkey Bacon! We just don't eat much Beef anymore! On the Sliders are Roasted Garlic Aioli! WOW!!!!! Gotta keep some of that made up for sandwiches! YUM!!!!
Tea Time had a recipe for Mini Boston Cream Pies & Malted Chocolate Chunk Cookies for dessert! My hubby decided he didn't want me to get stressed out! (He's seen me when I get stressed! ) So, he bought a Boston Cream Pie & brought it home for me! So, here it is!
Here's a look at my "Table Scape!" Shooting for a Masculine theme of course!
I had to HUNT around the house for items that would help me with the Masculine theme! A pocket watch, bottle of ink, pen, books, magnifying glass...I WANTED some deer antlers, but they were SO BIG, you couldn't get to the three tiered server! So, I thought it best to leave them out! Mixing the gold & silver looked nice & the black & earthy runner helped! It was elegant & masculine! Men like to be treated SPECIAL TOO!
HOPE you pick up a copy of this Tea Time Magazine! It's on display till July 2, 2012!

I asked my husband which of the recipes he liked best, he said he couldn't decide! I heard ALOT of "Mmmmm's" coming from EVERYONE though!

We turn EVERY  " Special Occasion" into Tea Time at our house! It lets everyone know, SOMETHING SPECIAL will be served & they will be treated SPECIAL TOO! After all, shouldn't we treat those we love SPECIAL?

Did you know that June is National Iced Tea Month? I have a Tea Time recipe for you I think you'll LOVE! I spotted this recipe in one of my cookbooks & wanted to give it a try. So, I sent my husband to the grocery to find some Rose Hip Tea Bags! They weren't to be found! (I REALLY don't like Rose Hip Tea anyway, but thought I'd give this recipe a try. But, it wasn't to be!) I've altered the recipe with the tea I had in my cupboard & I ABSOLUTELY LOVE how it came out! I'll give you BOTH recipes! Both recipes are  HEALTHY! AND for Tea time, I don't think ANYTHING else needs to be served with it!

Let me just give you some guidelines in serving iced tea first! This information is from Dorothea Johnson, the founder of the Protocol School of Washington. You should serve your iced tea in a tall glass & place it on a small plate or saucer, as a coaster,  to protect your linens. Of course, you will want those slender, long iced tea spoons to stir in your sweetner &/or lemon. Place your iced tea spoons on the outer right side of the small plate or saucer, before & after use.

If there is no small plate or saucer served with your iced tea, leave your iced tea spoon in your glass. I know, you're thinking it'll poke my eye out while I'm drinking! Use your index finger, you know, the one you point with, to hold the spoon away from your face as you drink!

It is appropriate to serve sugar & lemon with the iced tea. Placing the thinnly sliced lemon on a small saucer with a lemon fork & close by the sugar, in sugar cube form. (Myself, I also add granulated sugar & a small basket of "sweetner.")

Here is the first recipe from The Charms of Tea Reminiscences & Recipes, by Victoria Magazine.

2 rosehip tea bags
2 c. boiling water
2 c. plain lowfat yogurt
1 c. sliced strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries
3 T. honey

About 8 strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries

1) Put the rosehip tea bags in a small tea pot or bowl. Pour  the
boiling water over them & let them steep, covered, for about 10
   minutes. Remove the tea bags.
2) Put the yogurt, berries, & honey in a blender. Blend until
3) Add the tea to the yogurt mixture. Blend until smooth.
4) Serve over ice, with whole berries.

Now, here is my recipe or ingredients. Follow the same procedure as above! I'll call mine:

2 Celestial Seasonings Wild Berry Tea Bags (From their Fruit Tea
2 c. boiling water
2 c. Stoneyfields Vanilla yogurt
1 c. Strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries
3 T. honey

(I used about 2 medium strawberries sliced, & filled the rest of the cup with equal amounts of blueberries & raspberries, red.)

Take a look at this!

I asked my husband what he'd give this on a scale of 1-10! He gave it a 10! The spoons are for fishing out those berries, & I'll be honest, I WISH I'd  had a straw!

Something else I did was pour it into a Pamper Chef pitcher that has a plunger, so I could mix it well.
Depending on your blender, you might have to mix it in batches when making the recipe. My blender is 5 c. or 1.25 L & it did just fine. But, the pitcher allows you to put it in the refrigerator for having later, or if you don't use it all at once. I found it went well with Breakfast the next morning too!

Hope you give this recipe a try, I'm SURE you'll find it as refreshing as we did!

Whatever Things Are Pure & Lovely!

"Finally, brethren, Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, & if there be any praise, think on these things."   Phillipians 4:8

Good Morning Friends! I read a WONDERFUL blog this morning that I follow! It was a CONFIRMATION for me! And I want to add the link for you to visit that you too will be blessed! Abby also has a link from her blog to another blog that I think you will find uplifting  & informative too! PLEASE visit BOTH, as they offer different information! Here is Abby's Blog:

Last night, I finished reading a book my friend wrote! It was/is her first book! I've known her for a LONG time!  I was excited for her when I found out about her book! "I know an 'Author,'" I thought! How exciting! And I quickly offered to help her by interviewing her or doing a review here on my blog! As I read her book, it was GREAT!  The story was suspensful, & flowed well...then, a little sensuality was thrown in & I felt warm! Uncomfortable! My thought & the thought that kept coming up was, "Why did you feel the need to go to THE EDGE?" As I read, those instances of sensuality were bumped up each time! With sin, once you dip your toes in the crystal clear, beautiful blue waters, you can't resist then going in up to the ankles, then to the knees, then to the waist... then something from deep below comes up & grabs you by the ankles & drags you under! Gasping for air, you struggle to get your head back above the surface! Pornography, (sin-whatever it is...) whether it be Soap Opras, actual pornographic magazines, books that you read, things that you create yourself, that aren't godly....WILL drag you under & destroy you!

"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, & to kill, & to destroy: I am come that they might have life & that they might have  it more abundantly." John 10:10

Satan will use ANY means to get you to dip your toe! He'll tell you WHATEVER you want to hear! Trying to convince you, "It's OK!"

Sin begins in the mind. No one can see it! Only YOU know it's there. It's what you DO with it! Are you dwelling on it? Expanding on that thought? Day dreaming with it? OR are you struggling? Are you fighting it? Quoting Scripture is the way to do Spiritual Battle! Memorizing Scripture is the KEY! Believe me, I am lacking myself in this area! I have NEVER been one where memorization of ANYTHING has been easy!

There is a little song that comes to mind we used to sing in Sunday School & Childrens' Church; "Oh be careful little eyes what you see....Oh be careful little ears what you hear.... Oh be careful little mouth what you say....Oh be careful little feet where you go... Oh be careful little hands what you do... For the Father up above is looking down in love..."  We HAVE TO BE mindful of Our Heavenly Father in ALL we do! If we're TRUELY serving God, HE MUST BE the one  we are seeking approval from! NOT becoming famous, getting our name on a list, the esteem of another person, etc!

I ACTUALLY have been thinking on this VERY ISSUE for sometime---with the many things that have come my way over the last few years! And the very song I have mentioned above had come to mind then too! I had the thought, "WHY doesn't SOMEONE use this simple childs song to remind people of what the  Christians' stance  SHOULD BE in MANY instances in life!?!"

My sweet son knew I liked the group Casting Crowns & has been buying me their CD's ever since! One day, while listening to The Altar & The Door, this song came up & I WAS BLESSED!!!!!!!!! Below is a YouTube Video of this very song! Hope you watch & listen to the words! It says SOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!

As "Christians" we are to be a LIGHT to the world, "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." Mt. 5:14. As "Christians" we are to be SALT to the world, " Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, & to be trodden under foot of men." As "Christians" we are to BE DIFFERENT THAN THE WORLD!

I REFUSE to be the kind of friend that tells people what they WANT TO hear! Then, I would be betraying MYSELF & MY LORD & SAVIOR TOO! My heart aches for my friend as I know she's probably hurting right now after receiving my opinion of her book. Say a prayer for her today? ( I haven't heard from her yet!)

Fathers' Day is coming!

I'm finding when you do a blog, SOOOOO MANY things come to mind to blog about! You have to learn to let it eeek out,  little by little! Anyway, I thought it time to create a Fathers' Day card since it's right around the corner! Now my hubby isn't a person to go & play gulf, go to football games, or wear a suite & tie! He's more of an outdoors man! Hunting, trapping, leather work, etc! I don't mind at all when he spends his time doing those things! He encourages me in my crafts & hobbies, so why wouldn't I encourage him? He can fix MOST ANYTHING! Which saves us loads of money! I think a man ought to learn the things he knows how to do! Just like the woman needs to learn things to save money &  make their home a brighter place... (I'm kinda old fashioned that way!)

Well, we woke up bright & early this morning by the meows of our kitties---George, well we should have called him ROOSTER! (He's the one who wakes us up.) We set about our day & went to work! While I worked on cleaning the outside windows, my hubby worked inside on the fireplace! (We're changing it over to a wood burning stove ) I got a picture & thought I'd share it! It made me giggle as it looked like he was a little boy finding a place to hide! Or at least that's what it made me think of, cause our son would have done that when he was younger! And our youngest kitty was right there beside him! (She absolutely ADORES him! Follows him EVERYWHERE!) You can see her there just leaving the scene; maybe she was a little camera shy!

This is the kind of thing I think men need to learn to make the home a safe dwelling for their families! And believe me there are MANY OTHER things that are important; car maintenance, plumbing, electrical work. Really, the list NEVER ends!

Here is something else men will do for their families- Something else to do with the fireplace! Keep us safe from CRITTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shortly after I started this blog, I was sitting in the living room watching an afternoon show that I recently discovered. Our daughter was sitting at the dinning room table watching it with me as she enjoyed it too. She was having a late lunch. All of a sudden, she jumped up walking briskly down the hall calling, " Dad!!!!!!!" I got up & slowly moved toward the hall asking, "What?" I didn't want to miss any part of my show & I thought it was a spider she was carrying on about. She came back & pointed to the mantel. There on the mantel, behind my china cups, clocks etc. was a snake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, I QUICKLY remembered all the feelings I'd get when we'd go to the zoo---I NEVER wanted to go into the reptile building! I didn't even want to look at those kinds of things! All I asked was that my husband be careful & not break anything! Of course, get rid of the snake, but don't break anything either! We weren't sure what kind of snake it was--thought it was maybe a Copperhead! So, that made it even scarier! Well, he got the snake & killed it! Came back into the house & was bent over in front of the fireplace... looked up & there was ANOTHER ONE coming through the fireplace inches from his face! It got away up under the mantel! So, we took EVERYTHING OFF the mantel! He pulled the mantel off the wall! It was gone! So he filled in ALL the cracks, crevices & anything that looked like an opening all around the fireplace! And he pulled out the gas insert, to make sure there were NO OPENINGS in there either! That's what got us started on this fireplace job for today! Well, we didn't see anymore of the second snake! But, ICK! ICK! ICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the first snake! It was about a yard stick long! ICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I HAVE TO SAY, I think our Fathers & Husbands DESERVE a SPECIAL DAY all their own! For ALL the things they do for us! Including the little things, like cooking for us when we just aren't up to it, listening to us rattle on about things, putting up with what ever our little quirks are etc.! So, here is the Fathers' Day Card I made for my Sweetie!
This card was made with CHF Scrapblocks- Newspaper Ads for the background paper, Spellbinders Oval die, SU for the main image, SU punches-Modern Label, Word Window, & Tiny Tags, the tag sentiment is from SU-Everyday Flexible Phrases, & the sentiment on the Modern Lable is from Stampington- Petite Greetings, I used Copic Markers for coloring, & Tim Holtz Distress Ink-Tea Dye, the little tomahawk is from Crazy Crow & Linen thread! Hope you like! And "HAPPY FATHERS DAY" to all those hard working Fathers & Husbands out there! I'm SURE you'll make their day EXTRA SPECIAL!!!!!!!!!!! (By the way, the snake was a "Red Rat Snake!" Still, "ICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
