A Tribute To My Friend!

Hi Blog Friends!
We finally had our Christmas Dinner yesterday after having the flu. I heard this weekend on the news that the flu this year is widespread, so we probably weren't the only ones in bed on Christmas morning. HOPE you weren't one of them!

Today, I'm LATE in getting to this Timeless Tuesday Flourishes Challenge, but I wanted to play along & having gotten word over the Christmas break that one of my friends had passed away, I thought a Sympathy card was in order.

The Challenge:

Before I begin with my card, I just wanted to tell you a little about my friend. I met Irene YEARS AGO when our son was in First Grade--about 15 years ago. She befriended me when I transferred our son across town, to another school after all the troubles we had. As I sat in the foyer of the school waiting for school to let out one afternoon, she motioned me over & we began to talk & became FRIENDS! She was a Great Grandmother then. She would take her Great Grandchildren where ever they needed to be, & watch over them, they KNEW they could depend on her.  She volunteered her time in a Mission, would go to the grocery stores & collect the day old bread for those in need. She wasn't afraid of working! I remember when one of her great grandchildren wanted to take Driving School, she got a job to help pay for it. She had health problems even back then, but NEVER complained & just kept on going! She ALWAYS had one of her great grandchildren with her. Those children were HER LIFE & she was SOOO PROUD OF THEM! Even after we moved away, & we'd  talk on the phone, all she could talk about were those children. She had a heart that was SOOO BIG & FULL OF LOVE!!!  When Irene passed, she was a Great, Great Grandmother & she was surrounded by her family. Her last words to her family? "I Love You too!" Irene will be GREATLY MISSED!
I made this Sympathy Card for Irene's Family. I wanted to create something that was as beautiful as she was---I KNOW I have greatly failed on that point! There is nothing better than the color PINK to help with the feeling of "beautiful" in my book!
Take a look:
I used a Spellbinders Die- Perfectly Pierced Victorian Oval Template Die;  made just for Flourishes.

Here you can see where I stamped on the pink background paper to make a print, covering it with Vellum to make it softer. The image only peeks out a little from under the vellum at the torn edge.

I used SU- Silver Embossing powder on the main image-Flourishes- Roses Are Red, & the sentiment- Flourishes- Sentimental Favorites.
Just a close-up of the image---colored with Distress Markers & SU Markers.

HOPE you like! I'm off to get this posted over at Flourishes---remember, I'm running behind!  To find out more about this Flourishes Challenge & other Flourish Challenges check here:

"Can We Eat Paper?"

Hi Blog Friends!
I KNOW you are SURPRISED to see me back here so soon! Well, Flourishes has a
(Can you tell I want to WIN???? LOL)
Have you been getting a GOOD LOOK at the stamps they're releasing?
If you'd like to take a peek, check here:
You'll find out all the details to this challenge too!!!
This challenge is about the New Year!
So, I'm REALLY NOT ONE to do "resolutions" for the New Year! I ALWAYS FAIL!
BUT, I thought about this one & the stamps I have....let me show you what I came up with!
I had to do another Christmas creation, but can you tell what my "GOAL" is?
COOKING!!!! I KNOW my SWEET hubby would appreciate it!!! I'm usually playing with paper when time comes to make lunch or dinner! He usually can be guaranteed ONE MEAL a day--breakfast! That's a pretty easy meal to do, because we both need some fuel to get the day going!
This morning, we had CAKE! (Shhhh! Don't tell our kids!)
I know my main image is a PIE! BUT, this doesn't necessarily mean that I want to cook PIE, as good as it might be, & as much as I LOVE SWEETS, I need to COOK MEALS! AND that means
MORE THAN SOUP! I LOVE to make soups, because you can put them on & let them simmer,
& go &  play with paper!

I'm kind of "Old fashioned" & "Traditional!" So, I see it as my duty to prepare the meals! My hubby is pretty good at cooking & has come a long way from our early years of marriage! He's gone from cooking eggs to baking cakes! He makes pretty good cakes by Dunkin Hines! But, there again, we need MEALS! Do you think there is ANY CHANCE that we could EAT PAPER?
THAT would be FABULOUS!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't skip a beat with my paper crafting then!

This is the insert for my card! NOTICE it says: " Happiness is Homemade!" I have to tell you that if we COULD eat paper, us paper crafters, would PROBABLY be ALOT HAPPIER!

This is the backside of the insert---a PERFECT place to write that Homemade recipe for the recipient!  I just cut an Index Card to fit the backside. Sometimes, when you are "paper deficient" you need those lines, as you can't write straight!

Well, there you have it, my goal for the New Year is to COOK MORE!
I chose to do a File Folder Card, because it reminds me of a Recipe Card!

Here is where I found the instructions for this File Folder Card:

IF you have a GOOD PAPER RECIPE let me know????
I'm searching for one!

It's "FLIP IT" Time!

Hi Blog Friends!
I have been scurrying around finishing up my Christmas cards & getting them in the mail to our dearest friends! Have you gotten yours out yet?
OH, HOW I WISH more of my friends were into card making!!!
(There's only one & she lives far away!) :(
I KNEW I wanted to participate in the Flourishes Flip It Challenge, to win the WHOLE MONTH'S RELEASE for December!!! So, I got busy right away! When I wasn't working on our Christmas Cards, I was drawing out what I wanted for my cards for this challenge. It takes me awhile sometimes, so I had to use my time to plan, if I was going to have some cards for this challenge! Plus, I threw together some cards to send our kids, at college, a weekly thing I do! I LIKE how they came out too---I used Flourishes on those too! (Not posting those today!)
Check here if you want to play along in the Flip It Challenge:
(The deadline is December 13, 5 p.m. EST)
There are TWO SKETCHES to choose from! I decided to do BOTH!
(Remember, if you use Flourishes Stamps, you get double the points!)

Here's what I came up with for this sketch:
I thought I'd stick with Christmas for this one!
For this card, I was thinking to put this, with a gift for the neighbors for Christmas!
I used the FRESH BAKED Set for this card.
I created my own designer papers. You can see the tone on tone on the green card stock & on the red.
I "stamped off" on the focal image- if you get real close, you can see it!
Here is the inside:
Tone on Tone again for the background (Sorry if the picture is a little fuzzy!) And a touch of some Paper Studio's Designer Paper in the corner.
The "Merry Christmas" is from the NATURALLY MERRY set.

A little super sticky tape & ribbon, dimensionals on this top layer of card stock; some paper piercing & just a touch of love! Hm mm, now what am I going to make to go with this festive card? Something SWEET, I think!

Next up, is the second sketch given to us!

I have to admit, I enjoyed this sketch just a little more than the other one! I think it's because I chose to do a floral design for this one! I LOVE FLOWERS!!!

I used the set SPRING BLOSSOMS.

As you can see, I did a Spotlighting Technique! I used Copic markers, BUT I used them on colored card stock! Coloring with a certain color doesn't mean you'll get that color when you color on colored card stock! (Have a scrap piece of colored card stock to check what color you'll get before coloring on your final piece!) I stamped the background piece first, & masked & stamped... Then I stamped the focal piece & figured out where I wanted to place the die. Then colored that piece in completely, whereas I only colored parts of the background paper.

A few rhinestones for dew on the flowers & a few for extra bling along the bottom!

HOPE you like!

"All is Calm..."

Hi Blog Friends!
I have a Christmas Card for you today! Let me set the scene....I put in a new CD by Susan Boyle, Home for Christmas & began my card! It's PERFECT MUSIC for crafting Christmas Cards! So soothing & beautiful! As I ran from one room to the other...sewing machine is in the other room, I even got to hear my sweet hubby enjoying the music; He was singing along too!
When I make Christmas cards, my mind ALWAYS goes to the WONDERFUL Christmas Songs that are out there... from the old church hymns, to the Santa Clause songs, to some of the new songs out today! AND what better way to get inspiration than to use one of these beautiful songs?
PLUS, we live out in the country, so when it snows, it SNOWS! Blankets of white cover the earth, the trees & the roads!  Billows of smoke rise from the roof tops as the people inside try to stay warm, maybe having some hot cocoa & cookies. So, when I saw this stamp at Flourishes--Snow Wonderful, I HAD TO HAVE IT!!!
I'm entering this card in the Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge!

Check here for more information on this challenge, so you can play along too:

I used the sketch from Mojo Monday:
I'm ALWAYS looking for sketches to use!

Well, here's my card:
Flourishes Challenge is to use Stitching on your card, so I pulled out my sewing machine & I've used Gold Thread on my card---around the edge on the designer paper with sheet music on it. I also used Gold Stitching on the red designer paper that I matted the main image on! AND I stitched the little Gold Star on the ribbon by hand with Gold Thread. Some straight stitching & some wonky stitching, makes it pure fun & adds some glitz for the season!

The red matting is not a die, it is a shape I drew out & cut out myself, wanting a specific look! I also edged it with a Gold Krylon pen.

When you buy this image from Flourishes, don't forget to purchase the die that goes with it--
The Classic Keyhole Template Die!

I EVEN pulled out my Copic Airbrush System my Sweetie bought me awhile back & airbrushed the sentiment in a Pale Blue, my first time using it! And I couldn't resist putting a classic plaid ribbon with this, & of course, I used dimensionals to pop the main image & sentiment up!

I WISH you could see how this image looks 3-D! I used Copic Markers to color it in, & stickles to add sparkle to the snow, including the birch trees in the front... when the snow sticks to the trees & glistens after a frosty cold night!

Makes me happy to be living in a place that isn't too far from looking like this!

Additional Supplies not mentioned above:

The Paper Studio- Old World Winter Paper Pack- Designer Paper
PTI- Star Gazer Die- Star
